We skied all the WRODs last winter - the Basin, Loveland, and Keystone all in our first trip out. We just can't help it - we want to ski so badly by the time October rolls around! And it's so nice to be in CO with everyone who shares our passion. I know most of you feel the same way.
But in truth I've been debating the wisdom of skiing the WROD when it's so crowded and conditions are poor. You are more likely to hurt yourself or get run into. It happened to me at Keystone last year. There were way too many people on the one run they had open - I think it was Spring Dipper. Plus it had been narrowed for one stretch so they could build a short terrain park on the left going down. That was a real choke point and I got hit pretty hard though I was not hurt except for a bruise or 2.
Is it worth it to takes some runs on poor snow and suffer the threat of a season ending injury just to make some turns in October?
This is something to ponder but I'll probably be out there along with everyone else and look forward to meeting some of you. However I have decided that we will not ski on the weekends until there is adequate terrain open.
See you soon . . .
