Default (un)busted up knee

Late last week, I landed really hard with all of my weight on one knee. Kneecap hurt a lot, but I figured I wasn't rolling around writhing in pain, etc., so it wasn't a fracture and was probably a really bad bone bruise. Besides, a trip to the ER to get an x-ray would have taken forever, especially since the hospital that I would have gone to had a guy trying to jump from the 5th floor this weekend (he made it to the 4th and then fell, and got himself re-admitted to the hospital. There's just so many jokes I can make about that one, I don't know where to start.) Back to me: over the weekend the pain came and went, esp. when I walked, was outside in humid temps, or was inside in overly air-conditioned spaces. What I was really afraid of was that there would be some way I'd injure it more by running. So, finally I buckled down and got an appointment w/ my very sloppy primary care doc (he's sloppy b/c in addition to telling me over voicemail last summer that I had a condition, he based that diagnosis on a test....that I didn't take.).

Today is the doctor's appointment. And my knee feels the best it has since the injury. Even when I press on the patella itself, there is really little discomfort. Calling it pain would be like calling, I don't know, the Smurfs scary (not including the episode where they turned purple and bit each other on the butt). So now I've taken the entire day off from work for doctors' appointments, and I don't even have an injury. Sigh.

Isn't that Murphy's law though?

I would be afraid of your Dr! Next thing you know, you will be in the hospital for gall bladder surgery.

That would suck!

I'm on a "take it easy running" and "maybe you should swim instead" and - holy crap - 2 x 600mg of ibuprofen a day regimen! My liver is going to have a field day....

The 3 day rule. For 3 days after it's bad, 4th day it's gone. For bumps & bruises I recommend keeping a tube of Arnica cream in purse or bag. Apply immediately & as per directions. Works for us.

Was so glad to hear that this settled down for you! What a relief....
Sometimes the old ice therapy immediately afterward is the best medicine??

Yep. All is good. Although, I had a skin biopsy on my other foot on Tuesday, and I've busted a stitch already. Sigh. Hopefully the incision will heal quickly, bypass infection, and I will be able to get back to running. Oh yeah, and that the pathology report will be okay.
